Today, our young men and women face challenges that create abnormal circumstances in their personal lives. Many adults (including myself) express the desire to provide emotional or financial support to our youth, as most of us are aware that higher education has a correlation with unemployment. The unemployment rate for individuals with only a high school diploma is 25.8%, which is twice the rate for college graduates at 12.2% (BLS, 2012a). The unemployment rate affects our society and community in a negative manner. The U.S. Department of Education (DOED) (2012b) stated that 90% of the fastest-growing jobs require post-secondary education.
I will like to provide the opportunity for each of us to contribute to the advancement of our African American senior students at Brinkley High School in May 2024. Brinkley High School is located in Brinkley, Arkansas. This school was the foundation of my personal and professional achievements. The scholarship will be awarded to senior African American male and/or female students of the 2023 /2024 class. The scholarship awards will be presented on May 15, 2024.
